Run time consuming programs
Running programs unattended
In principle there are two possibilities to run programs unattended. One thing you must not do is start a program on a computer in one of our public labs, lock it and leave. The PCs in the public labs (except for the Associate Areas) may in no way be reserved to or by single persons. If we find PCs which are locked we reboot them without caring about possible data loss and wasted cpu time.
Instead, you should use our batch queue system which finds a free computer, runs your program there, and notifies you via e-mail about the job completion. See the corresponding chapter in the ICTP user's guide.
